Parent Shadow Month at FMS - Each October & February
Register today for an opportunity to shadow a Finley Middle School student. Each school day is a parent shadow day during the months of October and February during each school year!
The Finley Middle School Parent Shadow Month engages FMS parents/guardians while providing them with the opportunity to experience school through the eyes of their student(s). These guests are invited to experience the FMS environment by visiting our campus, attending classes, meeting students and teachers, and seeing first-hand the day in the life of their student. By spending a day walking in their child(ren)’s shoes, we hope that parents and other important adults will develop a new appreciation for the rigors of middle school and what learning looks like today.

Parent Shadow Month is open to parents/guardians of current FMS students in grades 6-8 only. Children under the age of 18, such as siblings and student acquaintances, may not attend or accompany a registered adult. Adult guests must follow their student's current class schedule. Drop-in visits to classes where your student is not currently enrolled are not permitted. Additionally, school rules apply to all visitors of Finley Middle School, including rules about cell phones and electronic devices as outlined in student handbook.
- Parents/guardians who are shadowing all day or in the morning should plan to arrive with their students between 7:30-7:45am to find parking and to check in at the school office for the day. First period begins at 7:50am.
- Parents/guardians who are shadowing at other times should plan to arrive 10 minutes before their student's next class to find parking and check in at the school office.
- A copy of the middle school bell schedule is available on our website under Quick Links of by clicking here. School begins at 7:50am and is dismissed at 2:20pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesday, school is dismissed at 12:30pm. Most class periods are 60 minutes long. You can contact our school office at 586-7561 to request a copy of your student’s specific class schedule.
- Parking is available in the middle school parking lot, located at 37208 S. Finley Road (off Highway 397 / Chemical Road).
- When you arrive, enter through the front door (facing Finley Road) to sign in and pick up your VIP Shadow Day pass and school map.
- If you are joining your student for lunch, please bring cash to pay. Parents/guardians are invited to eat in the commons with their student. The FMS cafeteria serves lunch from 10:50-11:20 AM (Wednesdays from 10:34-11:04 AM). Contact the school office for the current price for an adult lunch (typically around $4.00).
